What Skills Need to be Taught Today to Ensure Safe Operations Tomorrow. The Occupational Safety and Health Specialist and the Environmental Engineer — Who Are They?

7.10.2026 10:00–11:30
Sirius University of Science and Technology, conference hall 5.6
For many years, occupational safety specialists and environmental engineers were perceived in industry as ‘people with papers’. Their main task was considered to be keeping logs, strictly accounting for waste and endlessly preparing reports for supervisory authorities. This classical approach no longer protects business. Complex technological processes and digitalisation dictate new rules: companies need not bureaucrats but strategists capable of predicting and preventing incidents. Hence a serious problem and a fair question: what are specialists currently being taught, and what does modern high-tech production actually require? How can this gap be bridged, and what skills need to be developed right now for business to operate steadily and safely?

Industrial Ecology: Transformation and the Changes of 2026

7.10.2026 14:30–16:00
Sirius University of Science and Technology, conference hall 4
Environmental legislation in Russia continues to change rapidly: standards that only yesterday guaranteed an enterprise legal cleanliness may in 2026-2027 become grounds for supervisory authority orders, substantial fines or even suspension of production activities. The revision of approaches confronts business with the task of acting ahead of the curve rather than putting out fires after the fact. How can enterprises prepare for the new rules of the game, minimise risks and structure their work under the current conditions?
