MESSAGE FROM MINISTER OF LABOUR AND SOCIAL PROTECTION OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION ANTON KOTYAKOV ON THE OCCASION OF WORKERS' MEMORIAL DAY

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of myself and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation allow me to convey my best wishes on Workers' Memorial Day.

The safety of workers and the creation of modern and high-tech workplaces is a key government policy objective.

A number of amendments to the Russian Labour Code came into effect on 1 March. These new legal mechanisms constitute a proactive approach to reducing injury rates and occupational diseases. They will enable a reconfiguration of the occupational health and safety systems in place at various companies. Protection for workers will be provided in a more effective and targeted manner, which will help us in our overall goal of zero accidents.

The transition to a model whereby each workplace undergoes a risk assessment procedure means that the role of occupational health and safety specialists will grow substantially. The health – and sometimes life – of a worker depends on your professionalism, sense of responsibility, and systematic approach to your work.

Allow me to wish you every success in your endeavours! Thank you for your conscientious work, professionalism, and efforts to promote a safe work culture!

Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation

Anton Kotyakov
